Well, we don’t know if a data broker has your personal data. Personal data is collected and traded freely between data brokers and it quickly becomes close to impossible to untangle this web and know what companies end up having our personal information.
Instead, we use an algorithm that predicts how likely it is that a particular data broker has your data. This means that there can be false-positive cases where we request data removal from companies that don’t have your data.
We cannot guarantee that data brokers removed your personal data, as that would require access to their internal systems. However, the fines for breaking GDPR/CCPA are very significant to most companies and it would be detrimental for them to lie about complying.
Some services like People Search Sites show the results they have about a person publicly and in situations where such information is available, we are doing random checks and file complaints if we find that companies lied about complying with a data removal request, but so far companies have been collaborative.
