Data brokers, just like other companies, need to properly identify the person who is asking to fulfill their data deletion request. That's why we need your full name and address, as this information is requested by data brokers to identify you and distinguish you from other users.
Surprisingly not all data brokers have your email address. Actually, those that have your email are generally less dangerous, it’s the companies that know your actual identity that we should be worried about. So if we don’t provide your name, they will not be able to find those entries in their database and won’t be able to remove them.
By law (applies to GDPR, PIPEDA, CCPA, or similar laws), data brokers need to identify the subject making the request. And since there can be multiple people with the same first and last name, we found that name and address is the bare minimum where we can make the request for data removal and say that we provided enough information for identification.
Similarly, different jurisdictions have different rules for what constitutes a valid Authorization form (right to make a request on your behalf), but as a rule of thumb, name, and address seem to be enough in the majority of cases.
Don’t worry, companies will not be able to use this information for any other purpose than to remove it and/or keep it from being collected and re-added again.
